The reason I'm writing this is because I scoured the 'net looking for reviews on this unit to give me piece of mind. Well I'm glad I took the plunge. It's $200 extra, but well worth it. It's well programmed, you won't have a problem switching from a Garmin or a TomTom. It finds the satellites a lot quicker than my Garmin too, and I assume (though I don't have many tall buildings or mountains around me that it will hold on signal better there as well. And I have the antenna buried behind my glovebox. I imagine if I gave it more prominent positioning, the signal would be even better. The maps seem to be better than my garmin: it has less unnamed streets in my experience. And the fact that it's built into your dash... Read more

Pricey add-on but does the job, July 24, 2010 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Power Acoustik NAVIBOX-1 Navigation Add-On Module (Electronics) I too scoured the internet looking reviews and when I only found 1 (above) I decided to take the plunge as well. I've installed this in my '94 Firebird with a Acoustik head unit. I wasn't expecting much- barely nothing at all, so I was pleasantly surprised when I actually fired it up.
Pros: Quickly establishes satellite links (much faster then my TomTom)
Large easy to read maps in 2D or 3D
Large touch-screen button navigation
Interface is fairly intuitive
Customizable voices (I like the 'slang' myself)
Easy integration with Acoustic head unit- (WILL play music while navigating)
*I especially like that the navigation is only spoken through the left front side speaker (drivers speaker) and not to the entire car. Very nice feature.
Cons:
Haven't figured out how to update the maps, or from where to download them

No music with PTID-7002NR, February 11, 2010 This review is from: Power Acoustik NAVIBOX-1 Navigation Add-On Module (Electronics) When buying a no-name GPS add-on, I expected a few shortcomings. No spoken street names, no lane guidance, etc. What I didn't expect was that all music sources are shut off when you activate navigation. I was using a Power Acoustik PTID-7002NR with this unit. Check with your head unit manual before buying this. A single line in the manual states that all other audio sources are shut off when using nav. This needs to be in bold print on the website, not at the bottom of a page in the middle of the manual. I can't recommend this to anyone for this reason alone. The Nav was passable enough, but no music while navigating. That's unacceptable.
